L&T bag Oman airport contract

Larsen & Toubro (Oman) LLC, a subsidiary of L&T has bagged an order worth 93.1 Million USD from a prestigious client to construct a regional airport in the Sultanate of Oman. The scope of works includes construction of passenger terminal building, ATC complex, cargo and other service buildings including mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) works, special systems and external works. The project is scheduled to be completed in 24 months.

This will be the third airport project to be executed by L&T in the country. Another order was received from a reputed client for the engineering, procurement and construction of a multi-storied residential building involving 16 towers in Lucknow. The scope of work includes civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, finishes and other external works. An add-on order was also secured from a real estate major in India. Works include MEP and other allied works for an ongoing residential project in Mumbai.

Water & Effluent Treatment Business
The Business has bagged a water supply order worth ` 539 crores from the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply & Sewerage Board.
The project will provide water supply distribution network to peripheral circles of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation. The project includes construction of approximately 650 km of pipeline network, twenty water storage reservoirs and other associated works.

Transportation Infrastructure Business
The Business has received an EPC order ` 385 crores from the National Highways Authority of India for the construction of Simga Saragaon Road Project (PKG-II) section of NH-200 Raipur to Bilaspur in the state of Chhattisgarh. The project involves construction of 42.45 km of four lane dual carriage way. It also includes a 7.32 km bypass and realignment, 16.22 km of service / slip road, 1 major bridge, 7 minor bridges and 10 vehicular and cattle underpasses.

Metallurgical & Material Handling Business
The Business has bagged an EPC order worth ` 312 crores from NTPC Limited of a coal handling plant of 2 X 660 MW power plant at Tanda.
The scope covers design, engineering, supply, construction, erection, installation and commissioning of the coal handling plant.

Other Businesses
Other Businesses of L&T Construction have won orders worth ` 359 crores. L&T Geostructure has secured an order from Indian Oil Corporation Limited for the engineering, procurement and construction of marine facilities at Ennore Port, Tamil Nadu. The major scope includes construction of a berth structure supported on steel piles, approach trestle and other associated structures.

The Smart World & Communication Business has bagged an order from the Lucknow Metro Rail Corporation Limited for the design, procurement, installation and commissioning of telecommunication systems at various stations under Phase-1A of the Lucknow Metro Rail Project. The scope of work includes design, supply, installation, testing and commissioning of fiber optic transmission systems,
telephone systems, train radio TETRA systems, public address systems, passenger information display systems, master clock systems and CCTV systems.

Will your partner be travelling with you?

If so, what will they be giving up in your present home and will they be able to continue with their career in your new home? You will need to check whether a separate visa is required for your partner to work or if your visa gives that right. If they are unable to work you will need to decide on the effect on your finances and what alternatives are available to give a fulfilling life (home business, training, voluntary work).

Are you taking family with you?

Moving with family raises many exciting opportunities, but also can create challenges. The HSBC Expat Explorer survey indicates that expat kids can take six months to settle in to their new country (see article). Getting young or even older children to prepare to move and leave their friends and family behind can be a challenge and should be thought through.

The options for education is another area that needs to be thought through.

Moving your child to a new country with a different education system can be a great opportunity to broaden their experience, but if they are close to key exams the timing can make this inadvisable. If you do take your family with you, it is important to decide between joining the local school system or choosing an international school.
