25 YEARS OF EXCELLENCE

A Warm Welcome!

Welcome to the April edition of the Expat Network newsletter. We have returned after a short break and will once more be mailing you the latest expat news regularly.

In this edition we look at the latest job offers open to those willing to work overseas. Below in Featured Jobs we detail just a fraction of the employment opportunities we hold on our database. Also important for those willing and able to work overseas is to keep track of where new contracts are being awarded. Below in Contract News we showcase just a few of the many contract details we hold on our database.

In this edition you will also find details of the latest top savings rates from banks catering for expats. And a warning to avoid losing money through expat finance products which charge high fees at your expense.

We also take a look at the conditions you will find if moving to live and work in Saudi Arabia, and some ideas for travel in your downtime - tailored to your expat location.

We hope you enjoy this newsletter. We welcome your thoughts on other topics you would like us to cover. Or do you have your own tale to tell about expat life? Let us know.

Hidden Commissions Erode Expat Wealth

Expat Money

High hidden fees and charges on offshore bonds and their underlying investments are leaving expat investors significantly out of pocket.

Many investors who move overseas are being sold unsuitable products, potentially risking their financial future, says an international pensions and investment firm.

Specifically, they warn that many offshore investment bonds will struggle to make money because they are weighed down by heavy and undisclosed underlying fees paid to advisers, product providers and investment managers.

Living & Working in Saudi Arabia

Living Working in Saudi Arabia

A very conservative and religious country, Saudi Arabia welcomes workers from overseas – but they must abide by its strict rules. So, no wearing shorts in public or boozing, among many other restrictions. You will almost certainly have to live on a compound.

On a more practical level, in order to obtain a visa, you must have a sponsor in the country. Your sponsor will be responsible for much of the required paperwork, but you will have to provide a great deal of documentation, often including marriage and birth certificates, and copies of your employment contract and academic or professional qualifications. Applicants for certain visas also require a comprehensive medical examination.

For detailed information read our guide to Living & Working in Saudi Arabia.

Expat? Get The Best Offshore Bank Savings Rates

Expat Bank Rates

If you have money to save, make sure it fetches the best interest rate, so here’s our round up of what’s on offer.

Currently best for sterling savers is Skipton International’s 1.5%, if you have £10,000 and can give 100 days’ notice of withdrawals.

For dollars, Nationwide International pays 1% for $25,000 or more, with instant access. Nationwide International is also best for euros, paying 0.65% for €25,000 or more, again with instant access.

The only way to beat these rates is to lock your money away for longer. If you can leave at least £10,000 untouched until the end of May 2018 then 2.2% annual interest is on offer from Skipton International.

US Expat? Get Your Taxes Up To Date

US Expat Tax

If you are an American expat you should already know that your taxman, the IRS, will want its cut of your income no matter where you are located in the world. They issue stiff penalties if you do not comply with this and file tax returns.

So it is very important to remain tax-compliant with the IRS and deal with them properly if you have been remiss in regular filing.
