The international bilingual school of Bordeaux (since 1987)

Bordeaux International School, which is run by an educational cooperative, offers a caring, multicultural, academic environment where students become bilingual independent thinkers, active learners and responsible global citizens.

Throughout this time of Covid, our teaching has continued via our distance learning system, and has proved effective, innovative, and resilient. Across the whole school, new practices are now well-established, and will provide a solid basis for the years to come. We are confident in continuing to follow our missions and values as an educational community.

Bordeaux International School welcomes children of expats hoping to benefit from the continuity of an international education, and French children wishing to acquire the English language or continue their learning.

Students from 3 to 18 years are encouraged to reach their full potential and become lifelong learners. A student body of over 25 different nationalities allows them to flourish in a multicultural environment.

Situated in the heart of the city, BIS has for over 30 years offered a challenging bilingual French/English education for ages three to fourteen, and for older students, a programme taught in English with continued immersion in French, leading to Cambridge IGCSE and International Advanced Level examinations.

Small class sizes, active and differentiated teaching allow students to follow a path of high quality education, and develop their creativity and independence of spirit.

BIS has been an accredited member of the Council of International Schools (CIS) since 2000, a mark of quality assurance for all. Our school is recognised by the French Ministry of Education, and is a Cambridge International centre.

An experienced international teaching team provides individualised and stimulating lessons using active and collaborative techniques in classes of no more than 15 students.

Recently extended premises include a science lab, media and technology suite, and more welcoming and functional common areas.

Our extracurriculars offer something for everyone: school shows, chess, robotics, film club, road safety, music band, languages and much more. There are regular cultural visits, educational outings, and sports integrated with local facilities. It is possible to participate in the International Award and school trips.

For older students, possible boarding with a French host family can extend cultural immersion.

Early Learning and Primary, under contract with the French Education Nationale, follow a fully bilingual programme.

Our bilingual Middle School follows the Cambridge International programme. In Upper Secondary, we offer internationally recognised Cambridge IGCSE and A Levels.

In Upper Secondary, we offer internationally recognised Cambridge IGCSE and A Levels.

IGCSE level students follow a programme of subjects with features such as: support for students having difficulties and for those who wish to take exams early; French courses for all levels; access to an e-learning portal.

At Advanced-Level, a unique educational experience combines teaching in English with the experience of living in France and learning the French language (all students follow the French AL course, even if they will not sit the exam). They will gain an international diploma (Cambridge International Advanced Level). There are three elements to this Programme:

–  Academic study.

–  Citizenship and international awareness.

–  Extra-curricular activities.

90% of students achieve grades A*-C, and qualifications are internationally recognised.

Individualised counselling on higher education and careers ensures that all students are accepted to the university or course of their choice. Guidance includes full support with applications, workshops, visits, and inspirational talks.
