Overview / Responsibilties

Amec Foster Wheeler’s Fired Heater Division, a World Leader in the design and supply of engineered direct-fired Process Heaters, is seeking a Junior Drafter for project execution of large Fired Heaters and Specialty Furnaces for the Domestic and International Oil Refining and Petrochemical Industry. Current Projects include heaters destined for Korea, India, Chile, and USA with fabrication being performed all over the world.


This is an entry level drafting position performing introductory and elementary CAD/drafting assignments designed to develop knowledge and skills. Work requires application of standard procedures, techniques and methods to complete a series of tasks. Work is thoroughly reviewed.


Key Responsibilities

  • Prepares and/or revises simple CAD drawings other engineering documentation from sketches and/or mark-ups and performs other drafting tasks using prescribed methods and procedures
  • Performs specific limited portions of a broader assignment under close supervision of an experience designer
  • Duties may include preparing drawings that vary only slightly from existing drawings when changes are clearly indicated by sketches, mark-ups or written instructions; making indicated corrections or changes on drawings, including the addition of parts or assemblies by copying sketches or other drawings
  • Work is designed to foster the skills needed to become more experienced
  • May be assigned to work directly under more advanced designers
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by management
  • May be required to perform miscellaneous clerical and chart work

Skills / Qualifications

  • Must possess an Associate’s degree and/or post high school training in Computer Aided Drafting and Design (CAD)
  • 0-2 years’ related experience
  • Basic knowledge of CAD drafting principles and practices and mathematical aptitude
  • Applies design principles and uses feedback to modify designs
  • Pursues training and development opportunities to improve skills
  • Writes clearly and informatively
  • Follows policies and procedures; works with integrity and ethically
  • Follows instructions, responds to management direction
  • Listens and gets clarification when needed
  • Meets productivity standards and completes work in a timely manner

Physical Requirements

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk, sit, and stand and may require close vision work
  • In addition, may carry drawings or boxes up to 10 pounds
