Overview / Responsibilties

Wood is currently seeking expressions of interest from experienced Shutdown Mechanical Supervisors to join our shutdown team for upcoming work at the Caltex Refinery site in Lytton, Brisbane, in 2019.


You will be required to provide leadership and to safely execute planned shutdown activities in line with Wood’s responsibilities and scope of work, while reporting to our Lead Shutdown Coordinator.


At this time, we will only consider applications from Australian citizens or those with the required permit/VISA for this region, in place. Preference will be for Brisbane-based applicants.



  •  Well-versed in all elements of workplace health and safety:
    • Strive to eliminate injuries and incidents in the workplace by proactively managing safety
    • Ensure Risk Assessments are conducted for all high risk work activity (hazard identification and risk control)
    • All incidents are reported in, and the team proactively participates in the clients Loss Prevention System (LPS)
    • Ensure timely resolution of safety issues and provide communication and consultation of safety related matters with work teams
  • Accountable for the delivery of project / shutdown scope as per approved schedule completion date.
  • Lead team members, ensuring that your team works towards the best practice delivery of the tasks at hand.
  • Identify and implement opportunities to improve productivity, efficiency, work practices and procedures.
  • Lead a formal, documented Daily Job start meeting for all employees under your direct supervision
  • Participate in estimating of shutdown activities
  • Participate in the development of schedules and work packs to ensure all work is executed to safety and quality standards and on time.
  • Accountable for the delivery of project / shutdown scope as per approved schedule completion date.

Skills / Qualifications

  • Previous supervisory experience in a similar role within the Energy, Resources and Industrial industries. Oil Refinery experience will be highly regarded
  • The successful candidate will have solid experience in leading teams, people leadership, managing conflict, problem solving, project management and change management
  • Shell and Tube Heat exchanger experience preferred
  • Thorough knowledge and advocate of good HSE behaviours, systems and procedures
  • Ability to constructively collaborate across all site departments                            
  • Advanced interpersonal skills and ability to supervise stakeholder relationships.              
  • Good understanding and advocate of Quality Assurance systems and procedures.                      
  • Able to work to schedules and prioritise activities and resources to meet work place demands.
  • Competent in reading Process and Instrumentation Drawings (P&ID’s), Technical Drawings and Maintenance Manuals.
